It has been a busy and exciting summer!!! The Youth had an awesome time on the Mission Trip to Mission Fuge in Charleston, South Carolina. God never ceases to amaze me as He works in the lives of these young people. They had an opportunity to minister to the people of Charleston in different ways, and were able to see how God was developing their gifts and talents. They are growing spiritually and asking the tough questions of life and seeking the answers in their own faith journey.
In July we had VBS and it was such a fun time! The children were excited about the Big Apple Adventure and learned about how to “Hear it! Believe it! Connect it!”. They learned how God is in their life everyday and how much He loves them! We had a great group of children and some came to visit from the neighborhood. What a blessing to hear the laughter of children fill the church!
It truly brings great joy to see these children and youth discover who God is in their lives and for them to realize the wonderful creation that He made them to be! Hope everyone has a great Back-to-School week!
In God's Love,
April Sledge

Spring is in the air and flowers are blooming and the warm sunshine makes things feel rejuvenated. With the season change also brings my long awaited graduation from seminary, and I have been reflecting on what God has taught me about myself, Himself, and the world during this time. There are 3 things I believe that can be a start to all of our own new spiritual seasons. The first is expect the unexpected from God. His grace always extends our worries and our expectations. The second is being uncomfortable sometimes in faith gives us a chance to grow. Thinking outside the box and allowing ourselves to see the world through God’s lens is such a beautiful view. The third is to let go. Disappointments. Grudges. Fears. Doubts. Let it go. The Savior carried those burdens to the cross. Jesus desires us to heal through His love and the hope He brings.

Sometimes we need to take a step back and look at where we are on this walk. For the past months I have been asking the youth in Bible Study this question: Where are you at in your faith, Where do you want to be, and what do you think God wants you to do to get there?
Being the season of lent and as we make this journey to the cross, I encourage you to reflect on these questions and really take a moment to listen to what God is revealing to you about yourself, your calling, the church, your community, and the world. We need to stretch ourselves at times to really discover what has been keeping us from a closer relationship with the Savior. Burdens He can carry, grace He can give, but we have to take a step, a leap, a jump, or sometimes a dive into our Makers arms. Go to the cross changed…go to the cross with a renewed faith!

It is that time…back to school! I was thinking about the things students and parents do to prepare for the start of a new school year- buying new clothes, searching for the right school supplies, meeting new teachers, getting schedules arranged, getting used to waking up early again, being introduced to the expectations of a new grade, figuring out the bus times, and many other tasks that leave us excited about a fresh start or counting the days till Christmas break! Either way, the first day of the new school year comes whether we are ready or not. It made me think about how we prepare or anticipate our time spent with God. Do we prepare or rush through to get to the next thing? God comes and speaks to us regardless of our preferred timeline! I encourage you to be intentional about your time of devotion and prayer. Get excited about! I have found that even a moment in the presence of God is like a fresh start to every day, all year round! To students and parents be energized about the achievements to come in this new school year, and to everyone, allow God to help you prepare, to teach you, and to give you a spirit of renewal! Peace to you all!

Summer is going by so fast! There have been a lot of awesome activities at church and also in your own lives. Many of you have shared with me stories and pictures from your adventures and traveling so far this summer. It made me think of our call to share the love of Christ everywhere we go, outside the boundaries of our doors and especially as we travel on this journey in life. So I have an encouragement and challenge for you. I encourage you and myself to grow in knowledge and spirit. To come closer to God and stay on course to His will for your life. To acknowledge that everything has happened in your lives to prepare you, to keep your vision focused, and to bear witness of the love and grace that God shows us all. Ministry is for all people who know the gospel message. So I challenge you to not wait for the world to travel to our church doorsteps or your own; go meet them where they are! Share, love, talk, visit, listen, and introduce people to the Savior of the world and the Savior of your hearts!
