Submitted by April Sledge on Wed, 11/18/2009 - 12:28amDuring the Christmas season, our focus can become blurred through the hustle and bustle. We have to take a step back and see what lens we are looking through, and if our hearts are in a true place. Near the surface we see ourselves celebrating the birth of Christ. Along the edges there are scratches and smudges of holiday business that can make our sights distorted or past hurts and loss that can make our sights faint with tears. As you allow yourself to a deeper stare you see a celebration of not only the birth, but the life of Jesus, God’s love for His people, the reason we have breath and the foundation of why we live. We need to remember this above all and honor the Savior of the world! Our Christmas traditions are very dear to our hearts, but let us worship and adore the King in all we do this season from singing a favorite Christmas song to helping those in need. Let us gaze upon the miracle that happened that night, and the baby that was born in a manger to save the world! -Rev. April Sledge
Devotion- Transformed
Submitted by April Sledge on Tue, 08/04/2009 - 1:07amThere are lots of things in the world that require a transformation, from the caterpillar and butterfly to the famous cartoon Transformers. Optimus Prime can transform into an 18 wheeler as well as Ironhide can transform into a modified GMC Topkick 6500. The world has so many ideas on what we should be or what we should do. Sometimes you may feel like you want to be someone or something else. The key is, like the Transformers choice, are you going to protect or destroy in this new form. In our spiritual world the question is are you going to reflect God’s light or blend in with the world? When we are truly transformed as a Christian it is not just the walk and the talk. Anyone could do that. It is a heart, mind, and soul transplant. There is no waiting list, no terms and conditions, or pain- it is a gift. God takes all that junk and unsatisfying features and makes us new. Our thoughts are changed, our desires change, and our service changes. You will discover dimensions of your faith you didn’t even know existed. We become “transformed by the renewing of your mind.” We are in the world but not of it. So you see, our Christian walk is not a stage to perform on, it is real with all its rawness and truth. You are like the butterfly in its complete new form or the leaf in its new color. If you decide to sign this release form of life- you will be transformed by God from the inside out and people will notice and they will be drawn to God through you, and they will desire to be transformed too. It is time to be the generation that transforms the world with the love of God and introduce them to a God that can rebuild it!
