The Pastor’s Corner

The Psalmist declares of God:

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble….

In May we will begin exploring how God can be our help in the situations that trouble us.  I trust that you are growing in your understanding of God’s care through the circumstances of your life.  I look forward to our worship and ministry together as we encourage one another and reach out to others in our community.

June 6              Youth Choir from Forsyth, GA.  Service at 10:50 am

I hope you will sign up to host a couple of young people from Georgia on the first weekend in June.  We will have a great time in worship and fellowship that Sunday.

A big congratulation goes out to the youth leaders and the congregation for making the yard sale a success.  We are over $1,100.00 which will help a great deal in providing financial support for the young people and chaperones going to Alabama for their mission trip in June.

Skipwith is a special place, thanks for letting me be a part of God’s good work going on here.

Week of Prayer for Association Missions

We will observe a week of prayer for missions May 16 – 23 at Skipwith.  Ingathering of a special offering will be taken on Sunday, May 23rd.  This is the offering we take each year to help inner-city children have a Christian camping experience at Camp Alkalana  as well as other local missions. This does help to change lives.  Envelopes are in the pews and in your offering envelope box.

‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’ The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me’.

Matthew 25: 37-40

Happy May Flowers Everyone!

Aren’t the flowers gorgeous?  God is so wonderful in blessing us with all the beauty He bestowed this earth.  In the next weeks to come, we will be discussing ways to work on cutting back on spending as a church body.  Please let’s do this with a healthy, happy attitude.  It’s just a sign of the times.  God bless you all!!!

Visiting Youth Choir   ----  “We Need Your Help!” ----   From Rick

On Sunday, June 6, Skipwith will be hosting the First Baptist Church Youth Choir (Forsyth, GA) during our 11:00 am service.  The choir will be performing several musical selections and this will be a wonderful opportunity for our own youth and Skipwith’s congregation.

We need your support!  The choir will be performing at Kings  Dominion for a “Christian Youth Music Festival” on Saturday, June 5th.  They will arrive at the Skipwith Church parking lot that evening by 9:00 pm.  Please consider “hosting” two (2) students that evening from the ensemble!

Our responsibilities will include:

* Meeting your 2 students in the Skipwith parking lot at 9:00 pm on Saturday, June 5th .

* Providing “light” snacks and conversation that evening before bedtime.

* Breakfast Sunday morning (June 6th) and returning your students back to Skipwith by the start of Sunday School.

* Skipwith will provide lunch for the ensemble and host families after our 11:00 am worship service.

*At approximately 1:30 pm we will drop off our 2 students at Ridge Baptist Church parking lot.  (The ensemble will be performing at Ridge that evening and their congregation will take care of all housing for Sunday evening!!!)

Please prayerfully consider helping out!  This will be a great “mission” opportunity for the choral students and for our Skipwith “host” families!  We will need approximately 14 host families for students and 4 host families for adult chaperons (18 total host families).

A sign-up sheet will be available over the next several weeks if you feel led to help!

Thank you in advance for making this opportunity a possibility for our church!
