The Communicator

Volume 23 Issue 8               August 2017

The Pastor’s Corner

I encourage you to read this edition of The Communicator with interest and care. We have a great fall schedule of events coming to Skipwith. In addition to meaningful weekly worship we have a new six week study on the life of Moses for the Wednesday evening service.

In October we are hosting the Dixie Melody boys on Saturday, October 14. This is a major event and opportunity for us to reach out to our community with a strong program to gather interest in our church. Let’s trust God to give us some new friends and prospects for our church.

Also, we are having a Sunday throw- back service of the seventy and eighties on October 15. We are enlisting folks who came through the youth program of Skipwith to come and share on that Sunday. This can be a very special day for us.

September 30 is yard sale day. A yard sale is a good bit of work but a lot of fun. Let’s make it a great success.

We have some work to do to catch up in our budget offerings. Please be as faithful as you can through the fall.

Thanks for the joy of leading you and serving with you through this fine church.  Cecil

Good Happenings @ Skipwith

The Dixie Melody Boys will present a concert on our church lawn on October 14th at 3:30 p.m. This is a very popular group and we are expecting a large attendance for this concert, perhaps 3 to 4 hundred people. There is no charge for the concert, a freewill offering will be taken. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy good music and fellowship.

Riverside Dinner Theatre Trip

A group of about 50 will take the bus to Fredericksburg on Saturday, December 2nd to have dinner and see a Christmas Spectacular Show at the Riverside Theatre. There are a few seats still available on the bus. If you would like

to go, see Floyd Myers. The total cost of the trip is $70.00 and a $20.00 deposit is required to save your seat on the bus.

Clean-UP Day

September 9

Our Building and Grounds Committee has set aside Saturday, September 9th as a day to do some fall cleaning of our church building. They invite all able- bodied men and women to come and help. Bring your dust cloths, mops, window wash supplies and join them for a fun day as we spruce up our building.

Mark your calendar!

Another Wednesday Bible Study

Beginning each Wednesday September 13 through October 18, our pastor will lead us in a study of Moses, a reluctant prophet, who grew in his relationship with God and by the end of his life had successfully fulfilled the role he was given.

We will begin serving dinner again on September 6, so make plans to come for dinner at 6 o’clock and stay for the Bible study at 6:30.

Life Screening

On Thursday, September 28th the Life Screening techs will be here in our fellowship hall all day testing those who have made appointments. More information is forthcoming as to the tests available and how you can make an appointment.
